The demise of the iPhone 15 Pro solid-state buttons is seemingly confirmed by an Apple supplier.

The rumor mill surrounding the possible inclusion of solid-state volume buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro is finally coming to an end. Reports from various sources suggest that Apple has canceled the project and will revert to normal, clickable buttons for its next-gen devices.

Apple supplier Cirrus Logic cannot disclose that Apple was its customer for this technology due to confidentiality agreements, but a new shareholder letter from the company has confirmed that a new product in the HPMS segment, which was previously scheduled for introduction this fall, is no longer expected to come to market as planned. This product was likely to be the haptic drivers for Apple's Taptic Engine in iPhones, and if the solid-state buttons had not been canceled, the iPhone 15 Pro would have come with two additional Taptic Engines to provide the haptic feedback for the faux buttons.

While the volume buttons will remain normal, the iPhone 15 Pro is still expected to debut the fully customizable Action button to replace the ring/mute switch. However, long-time Apple rumor monger Ming-chi Kuo reports that the solid-state buttons won't be included due to unresolved technical issues before mass production.

Although Apple may have abandoned the idea of solid-state volume buttons for now, analyst Jeff Pu suggests that the company will likely push the introduction of the technology to next year and aim to have it debut in the iPhone 16 Pro.
