The Vivo X90 series was launched in China in November last year. Vivo thus managed to become a global smartphone brand that deployed devices with Dimensity 9200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors. The series consisted of the X90, X90 Pro and X90 Pro+ models. These devices have been designed with impressive specifications and superb ZEISS optics. Since its launch in China, global fans of the brand have been eagerly awaiting the global release. And now that day has finally arrived. Vivo is thus introducing the Vivo X90 series to world markets , and its representatives will be the Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro models.
In terms of basic hardware, both the X90 and X90 Pro are closely related. The duo of flagships are equipped with the same 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and HDR 10+ support. These displays are also very bright with a maximum brightness of up to 1,300 nits. The displays have a subtle curve that adds a premium look. At the top, we have a centered cutout with a punch hole for the selfie camera.
The X90 Pro+ isn't headed for global markets, at least not at the moment. Therefore, Vivo chose the Dimensity 9200 SoC to compete in a market full of Snapdragon flagships. The colleagues at Gizchina.com directly asked Viva about this decision, and the company is confident in the Dimensity 9200's performance. Vivo is also constantly trying to diversify its portfolio with more partners. This time, it chose MediaTek to power its flagships.
In terms of specs, the Dimensity 9200 packs 1 x ARM Cortex-A715 clocked up to 3.05GHz, 3 x ARM Cortex-A715 clocked up to 2.85GHz and 4x ARM Cortex-A510 clocked up to 1.8GHz. Graphics are provided by a powerful ARM Immortalis-G715 processor with ray tracing support. Technically, the Dimensity 9200 matches the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Both phones also have UFS 4.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM.
MediaTek and Vivo's new partnership to harness the Dimensity 9200 isn't just raw computing power. The two companies have collaborated to enhance the experience of Vivo's latest flagships. There is a new transfer of data processing from the processor to the UFS memory. It makes app switching and background downloads even faster.
The Vivo X90 and X90 Pro also feature stereo speakers for an immersive audio experience. Additionally, they are IP68 certified for water/dust resistance. In terms of connectivity, both phones are equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and the latest Bluetooth 5.3 standard. There is also an IR sensor.
The devices are also equipped with a fast charging feature. The Vivo X90 packs a 4,810mAh battery and the X90 Pro has a slightly larger 4,870mAh battery. Both devices come with 120W fast charging. In terms of software, both phones come with Android 13 and FuntouchOS 13 pre-installed. The company offers balanced and fast charging modes.
Both devices are great flagship phones when looking at the overall specs. However, the big highlight is the camera department. During the preview, Vivo said that this is the best camera ever for the Vivo X series.
The new smartphones come with the latest conveniences from ZEISS. The lens maker and Vivo have been working together for the past few years to improve photography in the smartphone scene. As a result, they have jointly developed the camera setup inside the Vivo X90 series. In addition to the new camera specifications, the company has also developed a new ISP (Image Signal Processor). It's actually the third generation (V1, V1+ and now V2) of Vivo's in-house developed chip – the Vivo V2.
The X90 Pro smartphone is equipped with a 1″ 50MP Sony IMX989 sensor with 4-in-1 pixel binning technology and a pixel size of 3.2 μm. The main camera has an aperture of F/1.75 and is fully compatible with the Zeiss T* lens.
The phone also has a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.0 aperture, autofocus and 108-degree field of view. We also have a 50MP telephoto lens with f/1.6 aperture powering the optical zoom. Both the main lens and the telephoto lens bring the OIS system.
The X90 series will be sold in Breeze Blue and Asteroid Black, while the X90 Pro will be available in Legendary Black. It has a surface finish reminiscent of premium leather in the lower part. Unfortunately, the beautiful red color will not make it to global markets. We hope Vivo finds a way to bring this unique variant in the future. And only the X90 Pro model will be available here.
