You may remember the time when Carl Pei left OnePlus to pursue his own activities. He created the startup Nothing, from which many of us expected great things. After a long time, the startup released its first product, Nothing ear (1) wireless headphones with a very interesting transparent design. After the release of the headphones, fans eagerly waited for Pei to introduce the first phone. The wait was somewhat longer, but finally Nothing Phone (1) debuted during the holidays last year. The design once again captivated fans, but the phone's hardware and software somewhat less so. Now it seems that the time has come for the successor of this model which will bear the simple name Nothing Phone (2).
NOTHING PHONE (2) WANTS TO CONQUER THE UNITED STATES
How is the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) doing? Carl Pei gave an exclusive interview to Inverse on this very topic . Probably the main thing that Pei mentioned was the information about the expansion of the Nothing development team. There were only five engineers on the team that worked on the development of the first phone, so the work on Nothing OS was outsourced. Now the team has expanded to about a hundred people and therefore the software built on Android 13 was developed in-house. Also overall, the Nothing brand has grown, its income has increased and this opens up other new possibilities.
Entry into new markets is inherently connected with this. According to Pei, the primary one is the American market. Users there are said to be bored with Apple and Samsung phones. As an alternative, they choose Motorola and OnePlus phones. Nothing Phone (2) wants to join these phones this year. He confirmed that they want to introduce the phone in the US sometime at the end of this year. Furthermore, Pei stated that they will also cooperate with American operators on certifications and customization of some functions. And this is certainly interesting information for American users as well.
THE NEW PHONE AIMS FOR SOLID SOFTWARE
Nevertheless, even in the development of the Nothing Phone (2), they want to stick to their original strategy. They don't want to offer a flagship machine with an exorbitant price, but a phone with an attractive design, an affordable price and great software. In addition, he said that their second phone aims a little higher even in terms of hardware. It will be clearly better than its predecessor and will enter the segment of premium machines. Although Pei did not share any details about the parameters of the upcoming phone, he indicated that he will focus heavily on software during its development. Their main motto is that they only want to bring products to market at such a pace that they are able to ensure their software support and keep improving them.
