The first benchmarks Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and comparison with the competition
Although we have to wait at least until tomorrow for the first phone with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, relatively complex benchmarks of this chipset have already appeared on the web today. He was knocked out by the editors of PcMag , but it's worth noting that it was still just a prototype phone available at the Snapdragon Summit. It was a model with 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512 GB UFS3.1 memory and 144 Hz FullHD + display. The achieved results must be taken with a slight reserve, because of course the final version will be even better fused and tuned. Even so, we can get a pretty good idea of the performance of the new chipset.
The first numbers confirm that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will of course offer better performance than the previous generation. But the generational leap is not so dizzying. Likewise, in comparison with apple processors, the novelty in Geekbench is at the level of Apple A14 Bionic and not the current A15 Bionic. Thus, the purely processor gross power increased by about 15% between generations and not by the declared 20%. Of course, these are just number games, because the chipset can offer much more than just rough performance. We will also have to wait to compare with other companions. Such as the Mediatek Dimensity 9000 or the upcoming Exynos 2200.
On the other hand, the results of the new generation of the Adreno graphics chip are impressive and crush all comparisons. Including apple platforms. But even here we will be mainly curious to compare with the AMD graphics of the new Exynos. The testers also directly mention the non-tuning and error rate of the prototype, which will certainly improve significantly. They also complain about the high heating of the chipset, which can very easily be Achilles' heel news. Snapdragon 888 has already relatively "drowned" and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 may be even worse.
