Since Samsung and Huawei launched folding smartphones, other manufacturers have been joining this trend. According to a report from China, OPPO is working on its first foldable phone and it is expected to arrive in November. While this report has revealed some important specs, it is unclear whether the device will be called the OPPO Fold or will have another brand name. The supposed OPPO Fold is expected to feature an inward folding design like the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Huawei Mate X2. It will come with an 8-inch foldable internal screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO technology. Previous rumors suggested a BOE panel. However, the new leaks suggest that it is a Samsung screen.
Under the hood, Oppo's new foldable smartphone will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. The use of this chipset may turn out to be a bit outdated at the moment, considering that Qualcomm is expected to reveal its Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 in December. Regardless, we must take into account the problem currently facing the semiconductor industry. After all, companies are having a hard time trying to get new flagship chip units. At this point, the Snapdragon 888 is pretty established and Oppo probably has a large stock of it. The Snapdragon 898, on the other hand, is still something to come and its availability will depend on many factors.
Other expected Oppo Fold specs include: a 4,500mAh battery, which will support 65W fast charging. Also, it is expected to come pre-installed with ColorOS 12, but it is unclear whether it will feature the latest Android 12 or Android 11 from last year. According to previous rumors, the Oppo folding smartphone will have a 50-megapixel main rear camera with Sony's IMX766 sensor and a 32-megapixel selfie snapper. It will also come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. However, like all folding phones, the Oppo Fold will have a high price.
