January 29, 2025: All new mobile devices must be registered to function on Sri Lankan networks.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has announced a significant change in mobile device regulations with the implementation of a mandatory International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) registration system. This new initiative aims to regulate the use of mobile devices across the country's telecommunications networks.
Important Note: Devices already connected to networks before January 28, 2025, will not be affected by these new regulations.
Individuals bringing devices into Sri Lanka must obtain clearance through the new equipment system. This process requires approval from:
IMEI [space] [15-digit IMEI number]
January 28, 2025: Last day for unregistered devices to connect to networks
January 29, 2025: System goes live; all new devices must be registered
Post-Implementation: Only registered devices will function on Sri Lankan networks
