For fans of affordable Poco phones and products, a significant change is coming at the end of this year. Poco has announced on its global website that it will shut down the po.co domain, including all regional websites, on December 31, 2024. This closure will affect sites in regions such as the UK, France, and others.
While the website closure might seem alarming to some, the Poco brand is not disappearing. Instead, its products, services, and support will migrate to Xiaomi's official website (mi.com/global) as early as October 21, 2024. The move may come as a surprise, given that Xiaomi has previously emphasized the differentiation and independence of its sub-brands, Poco and Redmi. However, the change is described as a cosmetic modification that will not impact purchases, customer service, or brand loyalty programs.
According to the announcement, all previous orders, product information, and reviews will automatically migrate to the Xiaomi system. This means users will experience a seamless transition without any disruption to their service or user experience.
Despite the website closure, Poco will continue to operate under the Xiaomi umbrella. Although Poco became more independent in 2020, the strong connection with Redmi and Xiaomi remained evident, as many Poco phones are rebranded Redmi models with minor differences in specifications and design. This move appears to be part of Xiaomi's broader strategy to simplify its online infrastructure and ecosystem, potentially benefiting users with a more integrated experience.
However, Poco India, which operates under the poco.in domain, is not currently included in this consolidation. It remains to be seen whether the Indian website will eventually migrate under Xiaomi's online platform as well.
The integration of Poco's web presence with Xiaomi’s global platform aligns with Xiaomi’s efforts to streamline its brand ecosystem. This change could make it easier for customers to access products and services under a unified platform, enhancing the overall user experience while maintaining brand loyalty.
