Redmi Note 10 5G Review - Smartzone.lk

The Redmi Note 10 series is one of the most impressive mid-range that Xiaomi can offer - its smartphones cater to different user groups at very reasonable prices. The Redmi Note 10 5G we have for review today looks like a slightly higher offer - it gives you cheaper access to 5G networks but there is more to it than that.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G offers an affordable 90Hz 1080p LCD screen, rear triple camera, a large number of connectivity options, a large battery, and a good chipset that can handle gaming on the go. What is capture? Well, we have yet to find out if they exist.

The Redmi Note 10 5G MediaTek runs on a 5G-enabled Dimension 700 chipset, usually with 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of UFS2.2 storage. We like to keep the Micro SD slot Xiaomi even though it is a hybrid slot. Of course, the Note 10 5G has a lot of features that fans will love, such as the 3.5mm jack, FM radio, IR blaster, and NFC. There are no stereo speakers, however.

Like the Realmi 8 5G, the Redmi Note 10 5G is not a device for everyone, as it is not the fastest or best camera packaging in this price range. But it also brings the Redmi Note series to this new 5G era and anyone who wants to experience faster 5G networks can get it for 2 230 or less.

We know this has been said more than once, but these days we believe that every phone, no matter how cheap, should provide basic access protection - IP53, water sealed ports, water repellent coating - something that makes it the most durable in our busy lives . Unfortunately, the Redmi Note 10 5G has none of that and is the only thing we feel is not on its specs.

Package Includes

The Redmi Note 10 5G is packed paper box that's as vanilla as they come. It contains a 22.5W charger, a USB-C-to-A cable, and a transparent silicone case.

Design and Build

The Redmi Note 10 5G is your typical smartphone on a budget - it has glass on the front and the frame and rear panel are made of plastic. There is no entry protection at all, and although the added case seals the USB-C port, it still exposes the 3.5mm audio jack.

Usually such cheap phones try to impress you with their attractive paint work and this Redmi is no different. Above the reflective rear panel, it has a cool matte finish and allows for somewhat mysterious radiant light to come out of the camera setting.

We have the Night Time Blue model, but the effect is the same on all versions of Chrome Silver, Graphite Gray and Aurora Green. That is, if there is a light to reflect, of course.

So, the 6.5 "IPS LCD screen on the front of the Redmi Note 10 5G is packaged in a long 1080p resolution.

The earpiece grill is on top of the thin bezel. The sole is quite large but in line with the competitive offers of this class.

The entire front is covered with a flat piece of Gorilla Glass 3 - it’s not that hard to break, but it’s more resistant to scratches than the new revisions.

The back panel is made of plastic and is slightly bent towards the frame. It has a matte finish that improves grip but if you expect resistance to disappointment - we have to disappoint you. Although not difficult to wipe, the fingerprints are mostly sticky and clearly visible.

You should enjoy the light effects coming in and out of the camera setting while the back is clean. The RealMe 8 5G actually has a similarly lightweight gameplay on its back. Is it a coincidence?

However, that is the only feature of interest behind the camera setup. It's unusually large for the slightly more basic three snapper - it's a 48MP primary shooter, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The flash looks like it could be dual-LED or dual-tone, but it has only one LED underneath, and the second hole is just plain fake.

As you may have noticed there is a third hole here, which is for another ambient light sensor - one hidden in the top screen lock, and here is the second one. The two are connected together to ensure 360 degree ambient light detection and can adjust the brightness up to 4096 different levels.

The camera glass is a bit off, but it's not enough to bring the Redmi Note 10 5G to an awkward level.

Now let’s talk about the frame. It is flat around the top and bottom and curved elsewhere.

The upper bouts featured three cutaways, for easier access to the higher frets, and the lower bouts featured two cutaways, for easier access to the higher frets.

The hybrid-sim slot is on the left and the volume and power keys are on the right. The power / lock button doubles as an active fingerprint reader. It's reliable and fast, but because of its location - it's touching the hand even when you do not intend to unlock it, which causes the phone to ask for a PIN more often than usual. If you have a problem with that, you can go to the fingerprint settings and change the reader's trigger from touch to printer.

The Redmi Note 10 5G measures 161.8 x 75.3 x 8.9 mm and weighs 190 grams. It's very similar to the RealMe 8 5G but weighs about 5 grams.

We have been feeling positive since our time with the Redmi Note 10 5G. It is easy to maintain and operate, has a strong build and can be used without a case without adequate grip. Although a bit bright, it is easy on the back eye, so it fits casually or formally into any setting.

There is only one thing we can improve if we can - the building should have been resistant. Knowing about Xiaomi, this could be great but sometimes they don’t advertise it, so people deliberately don’t go swimming with their phones. However, there may be an official IP rating for the budget price query.

Display

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 comes packaged with a 5G 6.5 "IPS LCD screen and has a fairly small aperture, with an average resolution of 1080p - 2,400 x 1,080 pixels - a sharp 400 pp density and a 20: 9 aspect ratio. A flat piece holds the panel securely.

The Redmi Note 10 5G display supports a 90Hz dynamic refresh rate. However, there is no HDR10 support.

You can choose between 60Hz (standard) and 90Hz (higher) refresh rate options. The 90Hz option should be dynamic and should automatically switch between 30Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz refresh rates depending on the content. The official website says support for 30Hz will be added later.

The High (90Hz) option should be dynamic - UI is drawn with 90 FPS and all compatible applications. When a static image is displayed it automatically returns to 50Hz, or 60Hz when watching local or streaming videos. Because of the budget chipset you will probably not be able to enjoy many games with frame rates north of 60 fps. With a future update, it should be able to reduce the refresh rate to 30Hz for 30 fps video.

Surprisingly, the refresh rate indicator on Android says that the refresh is kept at 90Hz even though the image is static. This may be a miscommunication between Android and MIOI but we can not guarantee that it will not work as promised by relying only on this Dev indicator. But we think Xiaomi is most likely to fulfill the promise and that it is just the wrong number on the RR cover.

Xiaomi promises a 1500: 1 difference for the screen, an average of 400 nights and a maximum brightness of 500 nights, which increases the sunlight. We took measurements of brightness, and the Redmi Note 10 5G fulfilled Xiaomi's promises. With an attractive deep black color for the LCD, it achieved a contrast of around 1800: 1.

Manual maximum brightness is lower than average for an LCD panel, but only 377 nits. In bright sunlight it can last for nearly 500 seconds so you should be able to see what is happening on the screen even outdoors.

Battery

The Redmi Note 10 5G is powered by a large 5,000 mAh battery that supports 18W charging at a reasonable speed.

The Redmi Note 10 5G gave an excellent result from our battery test with a 121 hour endurance rating. It did a fantastic job in video testing, calls, web browsing and every test that showed good consistent performance.

Charging

Although the phone can take a maximum of 18W, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G sends a 22.5W charger. If you have other compatible devices, you will be able to charge faster with this adapter, and you will need to carry one or more chargers less.

So, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G has a 5000 mAh battery, but thanks to this 18W it should not take long to recharge. In fact, the battery charges from 0% to 33% within 30 minutes of the supplied charger. Sure, it’s not that impressive, but it makes sense considering the large capacity.

Speaker

The Redmi Note 10 5G has just one speaker, and it's at the bottom of the phone. It scored a Good mark in our loudness test, in line with its peers.

OS

The Redmi Note 10 5G launches out of the box with Android 11 MIUI 12. The MIUI 12 launcher has been around for a while, and although it uses an Android 11 base, you can't tell because it all boils down well.

Performance and Benchmark

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G is based on MediaTek's most affordable 5G enabled chip - Dimension 700 - the only SoC behind the cheap Realme 8 5G.

The Dementity 700 5G chip packs a good octa-core processor with 2x 2.2GHz cortex-A76 and 6x 2.0GHz cortex-A55. The GPU is a Mali-G57MC2 and actually has a 5G modem.

Finally, the Redmi Note 10 is available in three 5G variants, all with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage - 4GB RAM + 64GB (global), 4GB RAM + 128GB (global), and 6GB RAM + 128GB

Unfortunately, our Redmi Note 10 5G came with a ROM version and all of its benchmark apps were banned and we were unable to run a single test. However, we have seen the same chip in the RealMe 8 5G and it works behind a similar 90Hz 1080p 1080 screen and we know what to expect from this hardware.

The Dementity 700 chip offers acceptable performance across all applications, including the game. The CPU is perfect for this class, the GPU may be a bit powerless, but it still controls the gameplay well when all is said and done. Whether it's a resolution drop or a visual effect, the Realmy 8 5G as well as the Redmi Note 10 5G often do well.

With MIUI, the Android operating system as well as apps, browsers and even games worked smoothly through the Redmi Note 10 5G and we did not feel any setbacks or ambiguities. And 229 is enough for the asking price
