OPPO has released a preview of what the phone will look like with its first-generation Display Camera (UDC). This technology is required to make a small part of the touch screen of a device transparent, so that the camera located under the camera can take selfies whenever needed.
OPPO has been working to replace the holes since 2018 and has even set a standard for technology to be submitted to the International Electricity Commission (IEC) in 2020. OEM announces that it will adopt a camera under the screen (USC, but Xiaomi intends to refer to its version as "CUP under the camera").
OPPO's flagship new USC connection break, although the corresponding pixels come in different sizes, connecting a small portion of the active display from "1 to 1" to "1-1" with the other board. This development clearly keeps content such as constant text across the screen and may improve the quality and reliability of the USC panel over time.
OPPO also says that one of its research centers (based in the United States) has developed a series of AI-based algorithms to enhance the images taken by the camera. The company acknowledges that pre-generation USC cameras can suffer from problems such as blurring and glare due to the risk of light diffraction through the display's specific layers.
It claims that its new AI will address all of these issues, and that the new display sensor will provide OEM's work on optimized white balance and HDR. As a result of all this work, a prototype phone has been created, this time without the need for a slide selfie camera.
The leaker CREATOR STUDIO has also posted a hands-on video with what appears to be the same device, revealing it to have flat edges and a slightly curved display that does seem capable of hiding its USC while not in use most (if not quite all ) viewing angles.
This observation is echoed by another well-known consultant, a digital chat station, who said that the new 3rd generation Oppo USC is now in mass production. However, there is no guarantee that this new feature will be applicable to the next Find X or (as we face) 2022 smartphones like the OnePlus 10 Series.
