Moto X40 Introduced with Snapdragon 8 Gen2
Motorola surprised us quite a bit last year by being the world's first to introduce a phone with the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset. This year, however, it did not claim this first place, but it is among the first manufacturers to introduce a phone with a new flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor. Yes, that's right , the Moto X40 phone is in the world, exactly as planned . The new machine debuted in the Chinese market, but we expect it in global markets as well, with the Motorola Edge 40 Pro brand name.
MOTO X40 PHONE DESIGN AND DISPLAY
The design of the Moto X40 is not a big surprise to us. It was recently presented to us by a rendered image, and in reality the appearance is no different. There are very narrow frames around the display, including the chin. The side edges are curved, so the bezels are almost invisible here. In the center of the top of the screen is a "hole" for the front camera. On the back we see a rectangular main camera module with rounded corners, three sensors and an LED flash. In the middle of the back is the notorious Motorola logo.
The display itself is an OLED type with a diagonal of 6.67 inches, a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 165 Hz. The screen supports DC dimming and HDR10+ and has an integrated fingerprint sensor. Protection is provided by Gorilla Glass Victus.
OTHER SPECIFICATIONS
As already discussed, the Moto X40 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor, which the manufacturer supported with 11-layer cooling with a large vapor chamber. There is also 8/125 GB of operating memory and 128/256/512 GB of internal storage. Connectivity is represented by 5G SA/NSA, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ax (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) MIMO, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, USB-C and NFC. There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and, as a bonus, resistance according to IP68 certification.
The battery has a capacity of 4600 mAh. It supports 125W TurboPower fast wired charging, as well as 15W wireless charging and 15W wireless reverse charging. The operating system is Android 13 with MyUI 5.0 superstructure.
PHOTO EQUIPMENT, PRICES AND AVAILABILITY
Photo equipment is not bad. The Moto X40 phone has a front camera with a resolution of 60 MP. In the main camera we find a primary 50 MP sensor with a size of 1/1.56 inches, 4 in 1 binning and support for optical image stabilization. It is paired with a second 50 MP sensor that functions as a wide-angle lens with a 117° field of view. The third sensor has 12 MPix and is a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom.
In the end, we will take a look at how the Moto X40 is doing with prices and availability. Smoky Black and Tourmarine Blue color variants are going to the Chinese market. Pre-orders are now open and sales will start on December 22nd. The prices of individual memory versions are as follows:
- 8GB/128GB - 3399 yuan ($488)
- 8GB/256GB - 3699 yuan ($531)
- 12GB/256GB - 3999 yuan ($574)
- 12GB/512GB - 4299 yuan ($617)
