Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is here
Corning probably needs no introduction. It is behind the production of Gorilla Glass protective glasses, which can be found on smartphones, laptops and a number of wearables. In 2019, the company also started working on the development of glass for foldable phones. And last year they also introduced protective composite glass for phone camera lenses. In 2020, the latest generation of Gorilla Glass Victus was launched to protect the displays of classic phones. So, after two years, it is the right time to introduce a new generation of this protective glass, which has the trade name Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
GORILLA GLASS VICTUS 2 TAILORED FOR LARGE DISPLAYS
With the original Victus glass, the manufacturer tried to place great emphasis on its resistance to falling, which clearly succeeded. But with the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2, it goes even further and takes durability to a higher level. Corning claims in its press release that the new glass is more resistant when dropped on hard and rough surfaces such as concrete or asphalt. In connection with this, it also retains its scratch resistance.
In addition, Corning's developers tried to create a composite glass that is tailor-made for large displays. As we know, large screens have been the trend for the last few years and only a minimum of phones have a display with a diagonal of less than 6 inches. As the size of displays increases, so does the weight of phones, which places higher demands on screen protection. Therefore, more durable protective glasses are in high demand. According to the manufacturer, the new protective glass Victus 2 meets all these requirements.
In laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 survived unscathed from a drop of up to 1 meter onto a concrete surface, as well as a drop from a height of up to two meters onto an asphalt-like surface. It also has up to four times the scratch resistance of competing alumino-silicate glasses. Like its predecessor, the new Victus 2 glass is intended not only for smartphones, but also for wearables, tablets, notebooks and other products. The first devices with this new glass may arrive in the coming months.
