Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept with an additional Leica lens
The fact that some of the smartphone manufacturers are working with companies that focus on digital camera lenses is nothing new. Companies such as Hasselblad, Zeiss and Leica are on the course. And it is the latter that cooperates with Xiaomi on the optics of their premium phones. For all of them, let's name the models of the Xiaomi 12S series presented this year , led by the Xiaomi 12S Ultra phone. The Ultra model itself is already famous for its great photo equipment, which Xiaomi and Leica have improved even more, and the world has a special Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept.
WILL THE XIAOMI 12S ULTRA CONCEPT REPLACE A DIGITAL CAMERA?
Agatha Tang, who shares real photos of this concept on Twitter , may have asked herself this exact question . According to the photos, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept phone with a large Leica lens attached really looks like a cross between a digital camera and a phone. The lens is massive and comes from the Leica M range. It looks like it can be attached to the phone's camera via a bayonet thread. And that's also why the phone's main camera module is modified and covered by sapphire glass. This protects the module from being scratched by the additional lens.
In the camera module of the Xiaomi 12S Concept phone, we find two 1-inch sensors. One of them is paired with the phone's camera and is used for normal photography without an additional Leica lens. The second, on the other hand, is paired with additional external lenses. It lies exactly in the middle of the circular camera module and thanks to this it easily cooperates with the optics of the additional lens. However, in addition to these two 1-inch sensors, we also find a wide-angle sensor in the phone's camera module. The telephoto zoom lens is replaced by an external Leica lens.
And how will it turn out? Will the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept replace the digital camera? That's not clear yet, because it's still a concept after all. It's also not very likely that Xiaomi will introduce such a phone with an additional lens anytime soon. Professional Leica lenses are quite expensive and their price easily exceeds the price of the phone itself. But it's already clear that the possibilities are there, and pairing a phone with a digital lens isn't impossible.
