OxygenOS 12 blocks the use of photo-sensors for external camera applications

The company OnePlus few days ago finally sent into circulation stable version of OxygenOS 12 for owners of phones and OnePlus OnePlus 9 9 Pro. The nickname stable but soon took on an ironic taste, as the update stopped immediately due to a plethora of bugs and shortcomings. But even that was enough to reveal other relatively ugly facts. Which again only confirms the controversial connection of the OxygenOS system with ColorOS from Oppo. Fans were already afraid of this connection and seemed to be right in many ways.
Doors from the Telegram group Google Camera Port Updates have found that OxygenOS 12 blocks access of third-party camera applications to additional photo-sensors. So they only have access to the main sensor and, for example, they cannot use ultra-wide or telephoto sensors in the OnePlus 9 series. This is a major shortcoming, because Google Camera ports from Pixel phones, for example, were very popular on OnePlus. And it was an interesting alternative to the native camera application in OxygenOS. This is definitely not bad, but greater choice is always and everywhere a positive factor.
This limitation is clearly due to the ColorOS system code. And because OxygenOS and ColorOS now use the same unified code base, there's basically no easy fix. In addition, older devices that receive OxygenOS 12 will be affected by this limitation. Of course, the problem is not just with Google Camera ports, but with all third-party camera applications. The combination of ColorOS with OxygenOS thus bears unfortunate fruit and, according to the behind-the-scenes reactions of experts, it is only the tip of the iceberg. And OnePlus can become a Titanic very quickly, because software was their main trump card.
