At the annual Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, its most powerful mobile chipset to date. Branded as the “world’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip,” the new processor delivers major improvements in CPU, GPU, gaming, and AI performance. This next-gen SoC is expected to power upcoming flagship smartphones from top brands, including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, and more.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is built on a 3nm process and introduces Qualcomm’s third-generation Oryon CPU. Compared to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, the new chip boosts CPU performance by 20% and increases CPU power efficiency by 35%.
The chipset features an octa-core CPU in a 2+6 configuration — two prime cores clocked up to 4.6GHz and six performance cores running at up to 3.62GHz. Together, they deliver faster multitasking and smoother performance across intensive mobile tasks.
On the graphics side, the upgraded Adreno GPU brings 23% better performance, 20% higher power efficiency, and 25% improved Ray Tracing. Qualcomm also claims overall efficiency improvements of up to 16%, translating to nearly two additional hours of uninterrupted gaming.
Gamers will benefit from full Unreal Engine 5 support, Tile Memory Heap for efficient memory usage, and Mesh Shading to streamline geometry processing. These upgrades allow console-quality visuals and smoother gameplay on mobile devices.
AI is a major highlight of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The chip’s Hexagon NPU is now 37% faster, paired with an upgraded Qualcomm Sensing Hub. Together, they enable agentic AI assistants that offer proactive, real-time recommendations while ensuring user data stays on-device.
Qualcomm explains that the AI can learn from user behavior, adapt to preferences, and provide smarter, context-based assistance — paving the way for more personalized mobile experiences in 2025.
For photography and videography, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 comes equipped with the Spectra AI ISP. This includes triple 20-bit AI-ISPs and the world’s first Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec for smartphones. These features enhance low-light imaging, deliver professional-grade video capture, and enable next-gen computational photography.
Qualcomm confirmed that the new chipset will power flagship devices from major global brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Realme, vivo, Honor, Asus, and Sony. The first wave of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 smartphones is expected to arrive later this year.
