The iPhone 17 series has officially arrived, bringing Apple’s biggest upgrades since the iPhone X. With advanced displays, next-generation chips, and the debut of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, this lineup redefines performance and design. Let’s explore all the major changes compared to the iPhone 16 series.
One of the most noticeable upgrades is Apple’s decision to expand LTPO ProMotion displays across the entire iPhone 17 family. Every model now supports refresh rates up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and gaming.
The standard iPhone 17 comes with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display boasting 3,000 nits peak brightness and slimmer bezels. This makes the entry-level model much closer to the Pro lineup in visual performance.
Replacing the Plus variant, the brand-new iPhone 17 Air is Apple’s lightest and slimmest iPhone ever at just 5.5–5.6 mm thick and 145 g in weight. It features a 6.6-inch OLED display with ProMotion and Ceramic Shield 2 glass protection.
Built from polished titanium, the iPhone 17 Air strikes the perfect balance between elegance and durability. It’s designed for users who want a premium device without the bulk of a Pro Max.
Powering the new lineup are Apple’s most advanced processors yet. The iPhone 17 and 17 Air use the A19 chip, while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max get the A19 Pro, built on a cutting-edge 3nm process for speed and efficiency.
RAM has been upgraded too: base models now have 8 GB, while Pro models feature 12 GB for seamless multitasking. Apple also introduced Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE), a new hardware-software security system to guard against memory-based attacks.
All iPhone 17 models benefit from Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 and the N1 networking chip, ensuring faster and more reliable wireless performance. The new C1X 5G modem doubles data speeds, making downloads and streaming smoother than ever.
Photography enthusiasts will love the new 48 MP Fusion rear camera and the 18 MP Center Stage selfie camera available on every iPhone 17. Pro models go further, adding a triple 48 MP setup (wide, ultra-wide, telephoto) with dual video recording for simultaneous front and rear captures.
This marks one of Apple’s biggest leaps in mobile photography, putting the Pro models in direct competition with professional-grade cameras.
Apple has finally addressed thermal issues with vapor chamber cooling in every iPhone 17 model, including the thin Air. This ensures performance stability during gaming and heavy workloads.
Charging is faster too—up to 35 W wired charging and upgraded Qi 2.2 wireless charging for efficient power delivery across the lineup.
Apple dropped the 128 GB option—now, 256 GB is the base storage. Pro models introduce a bold new camera island design with a full-width bar. Colors like Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver make the iPhone 17 series visually distinct.
Pricing starts at $799 (₹82,900 in India) for the base iPhone 17. Pro and Pro Max models are slightly more expensive than the iPhone 16 generation, though the standard iPhone 17 comes at a more competitive price in markets like India.
