Let's be honest: this shouldn't have happened . Samsung 's One UI 7 update came with a lot of promise. New features, a refreshed design, improved AI, smarter quick settings. And for the most part, the update delivered. But not in the area of battery life. One UI 7 has been plagued by battery drain for Galaxy users.
It's been a few weeks now and Galaxy users are still reporting frustrating battery drain. This isn't a common issue after an update. It seems to be a deeper issue. And it mostly affects higher-end models. Let's mention the Galaxy S24, S24+ , and the latest foldables.
Take the S24+ for example. Before One UI 7, some users were reporting 6-7 hours of battery life with the screen on. Now? They have to charge by mid-afternoon. One foldable phone user said that his phone used to last all day without any problems. Now it runs out of power after just five hours. And it's not uncommon. The forums are full of similar complaints.
It was expected that there would be some recalibration after the update. That's normal - background processes settle down, indexing completes, and battery performance usually levels out within a few days. Maybe a week at most. But that's long gone.
Worse, many of the “fixes” that are being offered feel like half-measures. Sure, you can turn off background activity, disable location services, lower the refresh rate, turn off some of the new AI features… but isn’t that a bit counterintuitive? These phones cost a pretty penny. You shouldn’t be limiting yourself just to get through the day.
Then there's the option that no one wants: wiping the system cache or doing a full factory reset. That's not exactly user-friendly. And even then, the results seem to be inconsistent at best. At worst, temporary. What's the point for users?
This battery drain issue is frustrating because One UI 7 improves a lot of things. Animations are smoother. Layouts feel more intuitive. And the new AI features are actually useful in some cases. But when battery life starts to deteriorate — and noticeably so — it's hard not to feel disappointed.
Samsung hasn't officially admitted that the battery drain issue is widespread, at least not yet. That could change, though. A fix may be in the works. But right now, people are stuck with carrying a charger around with them.
And probably no one wants that.
